Microneedling

Collagen Induction Therapy

Micro-needling is a process called collagen induction therapy (CIT). CIT is the skin’s own ability to repair itself. By using Dr Pen, you are treating yourself to CIT and creating controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair process by making deliberate micro injuries to the skin. This then creates and triggers the release of growth factors for the production of new collagen and elastin, which what we lose as we age.

Dr Pen Auto Microneedle System is a non-invasive treatment which gives your skin that glow you’re looking for. Micro-needling targets fine lines, wrinkles, texture, stretch marks, loss of tone and elasticity, enlarged pores, acne scarring and pigmentation. Microneedling promotes anti-aging, smoother, more radiant skin, brighter complexion, hydration, minimizes the appearance of pores, even skin tone, hair growth, firming and tightening skin, healing, production of collagen and elastin, production absorption

  • Enlarged pores

  • Hyperpigmentation and Melasma

  • Sun damage

How should I prep my skin?

Do not exfoliate. Please avoid taking anti-inflammatory medication, drinking alcohol, or taking fish oil tablets for the three days before your microneedling treatment, as this will help minimize bleeding.

What should I expect?
  • It’s perfectly normal to experience redness, swelling, and pinpoint bleeding after your microneedling treatment. This is nothing to worry about as this reaction is normal.

  • Avoid working out/sweating or applying makeup for 24 hours. If going outside you must apply a high protection sunscreen (sun protection is provided in post treatment kit)

  • If you have to wear makeup, use a makeup product that is specifically designed for sensitive skin or for post-treatment use to avoid irritation. Clean and sanitize your tools/sponges before use.

What is the aftercare?

A complimentary aftercare kit with professional skincare products will be provided after service. To ensure the proper healing environment:

  • 24 hours post session, you may experience some mild swelling, peeling, bruising, and flaking. To minimize these effects, keep the skin moisturized. Moisturizing will also reduce shedding and alleviate the feeling of tightness.

  • Do not use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare for at least 7 days post-treatment.

  • Avoid extended periods in the sun and apply an SPF when you leave the house

  • Do not go swimming for at least 48 hours post-treatment.

  • No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 48 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments are harmful, rife with bacteria, and may cause adverse reactions

Does it hurt?

There are some sensitivities  associated with microneedling, some have considered similar to tattooing. However, most discomfort is experienced on the forehead because it is closest to bone.

What is the downtime?

There is no downtime as such, however, the first day or two after your treatment you will experience redness and your skin will flake. You should not get microneedling if you wish to attend an event within 48 – 72 hours post-treatment.
